Limewash is a product that has been used to coat the external surfaces of traditional lime renderd timber constructed buildings for over two centuries and has been the number one choice for external decoration and protection for the duration of that time due to it's extreme water permeability allowing building without damp proof courses to breathe.
In recent years, Limewash has become increasingly popular again as people have recognized the damage caused by the use of modern masonry paints and due to the ongoing recommendations from home design/improvement companies.
Exterior Limewash is a popular traditional paint that has been made using lime putty, and was originally developed to offer ‘breathability to surfaces. External surfaces are always exposed to the elements and harsh conditions caused by nature. Limewash has been designed as a coating for external walls to offer superior water permeability and is highly suited for application to wet walls, where the substrate often stores the damp. Exterior Limewash has been made in such a way that the water can be released and evaporates back into the air, meaning the substrate is less susceptible to store water and is far less likely to erode over time.
Limewash is a traditional, high performance paint that has been used for a long time now, due to it’s protective properties and appealing finish, usually in white. The Traditional Paint Company can tint and colour our Exterior Limewash to almost any tradional or contemporary designer colours, to create a decorative finish to suit your requirements. This product is formulated to be applied to lime renders but by applying a coat of Pozzolan Limewas as a primer it can be applied to most external surfaces, most suitably of which are bricks, flint and concrete render, as well as any other surfaces that have been previously coated with limewash.
